Spelling Lists

The Pukeko team teachers have recently reviewed our spelling procedures for Homefun. We have made a few changes, to ensure that we are meeting the needs of all of our students. We will continue to work from the Essential Spelling List and children will still be placed into groups based on assessment data. Instead of having only 5-8 words sent home each week, we will be sending home the whole list for each group. The number of words your child will bring home depends on what group they are in.  We find that the difficulty of the words in each list varies a lot. This means that your child can focus solely on practising the words they don’t know how to spell. Because there are a large number of words in each list, groups will now be tested on alternate weeks. i.e. Groups 1-3 will be tested this week, Groups 4-6 will be tested next week. If your child passes with more than 90% they will move up the to the next list.  Families can choose how many words they think is suitable to practise each night.
